Who can participate?
Anyone that's aged 18+ can sign up as a writer, an artist, or both! If you love Kacchako and can commit to creating at least 2000 words of a complete fic or a cleanly lined piece of art with, at minimum, base coloring centered around their relationship, you are welcome to join! We understand that fanart pieces may not neatly fit into this description — if you have a question about an alternative that may qualify, please DM the Event Twitter!You will need an AO3 account to participate. If you do not have one, you can request an invite here or you can reach out to the Mods through Twitter. We might be able to get you one sooner!
How do I participate?
Sign up through the event's AO3 collection and this google form.If you miss the sign-up window, you can participate as a pinch hitter, or create extra gifts as treats for the participants when the time comes.If you're unable to create for any reason, you can still help by spreading the word about the event, leaving lots of love and feedback to the works when they are posted, or by being a beta!There is no official discord server for this event. If you want, there is a channel in the Spicy Mochi Shoppe (formerly KBB 2022) server for KSS participants! All official communications will be sent to the email associated with your AO3 address. All unofficial communications (beta assignments, prompt clarifications, etc) will occur through the participants' medium of choice.
How do I sign up?
Sign up by filling out the sign-up Google form here so we can have your contact information and the sign-up through the AO3 collection to match you up. Sign-ups will be open from November 1st, 2022, and will close on November 15th, 2022 at 11:59 PM EST (GMT -5). The sign-up form from the AO3 collection will have two parts: one where you will put in your request and another where you will put in your offer.We'll explain them below ↓➳ The request part is where you have to detail what you would like to receive. Here you'll have to do the following:+ Select 3-20 of your preferred tropes/themes in the 'Additional Tags' section. This will help the matching process and guide your gifter to create something according to your preferences.+ Select the ratings of the work you would like to receive (G, T, M and/or E). Remember that M and E are works considered NSFW. No problematic content will be allowed for this event (see below).+ Under the "Your Request" section, please put down at least 4 prompts you would like to receive along with Do Not Wants (abbreviated as DNWs for shortness). This will help your creator know what to avoid, whether it's a squick, a trigger, or a specific side ship. If you're willing to receive fanart, please make sure some of your prompts are art-specific.➳ The offer part is where you have to detail what you are willing to create. Here you'll have to do the following:+ Select 3-20 tropes/themes you're willing to create in the 'Additional Tags' section. This will help the matching process.+ Select the ratings of the work you're willing to create. Remember to put your comfort first! M and E are works considered NSFW.+ Under the "Your Offer" section, write down anything specific you'd prefer to create (though we'll mainly match up gifts based on the tags) and what you're not willing to create.Remember that by signing up, you are agreeing to create at least 2000 words of fic or a full illustration/comic following your recipient's prompts and preferences. Matching will be based on at least one (1) of the requested ratings and at least three (3) of the requested tropes marked in the Additional Tags through the AO3 matching system (aided by the mods' very human eyes).Your gifter will probably not be the same as your giftee and everything will remain anonymous until reveals are done!
Can I ask to receive fic/art only?
Yes, you can! This will be an option in the 'Additional Tags' section.
Are there any prohibited topics?
We've decided to prohibit topics considered as dark/problematic. Problematic content includes but is not limited to: non-con (including underage, bestiality, teratophilia, necrophilia), incest, extreme age gaps (including age play), extreme kink, pet play, and extreme violence. If you're unsure if your content falls into this category, please DM a mod or the account.
Do I need a beta-reader?
It's up to you! Beta's can be requested through this link or you are free to contact your go-to beta. If using a beta outside the event, make sure your friend keeps the secret! Again, this is optional, so you can opt to not have your fic beta-read.
What if I can't complete my assignment on time?
Life happens, and sometimes things are out of our control. That's okay, don't worry! If you find you're unable to complete your assignment in time, just make sure to please contact the mods ASAP. It is okay to drop out, as long as you tell the mods as soon as you know. We would rather you drop out earlier and allow us to give a pinch hitter more time to complete a piece than have you struggle to complete something when the stars are not aligning for you. If anything, you can always submit your WIP as a treat later!
Since this exchange has a decently long creation period time, we'll be doing check-ins and if you drop out after the
without speaking with a mod, you will not be able to participate in the Kacchako Secret Santa 2023. If you have not communicated with the mods and you have not submitted anything by January 7th, you will automatically be considered dropped and the same repercussions will apply. Please reach out to us if you think you might need an extension, we'll do our best to try to accommodate you!
When and how do I submit my work once I finish it?
The collection will be open for posting once assignments are sent out, so creators can post their work to the collection any time from November 19th, 2022 to January 8th, 2023! Pinch Hitters may have extensions, depending on when they were given their assignments.We will be compiling a 'Posting Guide' closer to the deadline with step-by-step instructions and HTML coding.The easiest way to do this is to go to your Assignments page on AO3 and select "Fulfill" there. It will take you to the 'New Work' page that you can fill out as you would any normal fic and it will automatically add your story to the collection with your giftee indicated.To post a treat, you will need to go to the Kacchako Secret Santa 2022 and click on "Post to Collection". This will take you to the 'New Work' page—please be sure to fill in the recipient's name manually in the “Gift For” section, as well as the rest of the form.
Are you looking for pinch-hitters?
Pinch-Hitters are creators who step in and help out in the event that a participant drops out and/or can't submit a piece for the exchange on time.The creation period is usually shorter for a pinch-hitter and there is also no guarantee of receiving a gift in return. We'll be collecting prompts from PHs when they sign up and try to match them to gift-givers when participants drop so that PHs may also receive a gift.If you would like to lend a hand or happen to miss the sign-up window and still want to participate, you're welcome to sign-up as a pinch-hitter!
Are you doing treats?
What are treats?
Treats are optional, extra works that are created for anyone signed up for the exchange! All prompts will be made public so participants may create an additional gift for someone other than their assigned giftee if there is a prompt that catches your attention!Since they're like a bonus gift, treats do not have to reach the fanwork minimums (see above), but should still follow our rating and content guidelines in order to be posted to the collection.
